To find the answer to that, you have to go into the Bible, to John’s Gospel chapter 3. These words came out of the mouth of Jesus. John 3:1: Bible Study Tools NIV version as:
1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” 3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
There is absolutely no doubt about what it means to be born again, as it is very clear in the Bible. There is no confusion at all about what it means, although many people may be lacking knowledge about it.
First and foremost, being born again is a spiritual experience. It is an encounter with the Lord, where one is born again in the spirit and becomes a new person in Christ Jesus.
Jesus used many phrases to explain what it meant to be born again. The Bible clearly declares that all of us are born in sin, and we are separated and alienated from God. Because of our sinful nature, we fall into sin. And because of our separation from God, we cannot enter the kingdom of God.
According to the Bible, the only way to enter the kingdom of God is to be born again on the inside, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Being born again has nothing to do with physical healing. One can be healed, but not be born again. And yet for all those who experienced the healing and the miracles of Jesus, they were the ones who ultimately shouted, “Crucify him!”
God heals according to His will. No human can heal anybody by his or her own power. Only God can do it. Sometimes people do get healed when we pray, sometimes they don’t. You can be healed and experience all kinds of miracles in your life, without ever being born again.
Being born again has nothing to do with material prosperity. You can prosper yourself without God’s help. Many of Jesus’ disciples were poor, He himself was poor.
Being born again does not mean that you are seeking power. Being born again is not a cult that is trying to overthrow governments, and is concocting conspiracies for worldly purposes either.
